The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) (Māori: Te Kaporeihana Āwhina Hunga Whara) is the New Zealand Crown entity responsible for administering the country's no-fault accidental injury compensation scheme, commonly referred to as the ACC scheme. The scheme provides financial compensation and support to citizens, residents, and temporary visitors who have suffered personal injuries.

Requirements

As part of the  ACC Te Reo Māori strategy and Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2022, ACC wanted to seek the views from staff to ask why is Te Reo Māori special to them.  To highlight both internally and externally the value of Te Reo Rangatira and to use a video as a tool to help launch the new Te Reo Strategy. To promote Te Reo Māori across ACC with messages from staff about the language, to be inspired to speak and hear Te Reo Māori, to teach Te Reo Māori and to value Te Reo Māori . ACC also wanted to create a video capturing of their in-house expert who wrote the ACC karakia; capturing his korero around his ideas on why/how he wrote the karakia – the whakapapa of the karakia, if you will that would be used for internal learning and teaching.

Solution

We had a quick turn around to create short, sharp and punchy videos that connect to the audience, focusing on the question "Why is Te Reo Māori special to you? Our head creative James came up with the perfect feel for these videos. Once the backdrop and lighting were in place it was a smooth and collaborative process with the ACC team sharing some beautiful and powerful stories on why Te Reo Māori is important to them.
